Basic tips and techniques for using Stencil Spray.

General Instructions
Prewash and dry fabric to remove sizing solution residue (from manufacture).
Cover work area with craft/newspaper.
Read instructions on back of Simply Spray or Stencil Spray.
Practice spraying on a separate piece of fabric or paper before starting your project.
(Get used to the feel of the trigger, apply even pressure.)

IMPORTANT:
FOR CONSISTENT COLOR: ALWAYS BEGIN SPRAYING ON A PAPER TOWEL AND
CONTINUE, USING EVEN PRESSURE, ONTO AND OFF OF YOUR PROJECT.
Cover a piece of cardboard with a paper towel. Always start your spray on
this paper towel. Then, move while spraying onto your project and continue
spraying back onto the paper towel before letting go of the trigger.
This will avoid any spatter on the project.
Try and use one of the following techniques on a single project
to create new, unique and interesting designs.

Stenciling
. Cover work area with paper towel.
. Lay your project on a flat covered surface.
. Stenciling can be applied over any other Simply Spray technique. Be sure fabric is thoroughly dry before stenciling.
. Using spray adhesive, lightly glue down stencil.
. (Make sure you cover all exposed fabric around the stencil before spraying.)
. Using Simply/Stencil Spray – Shake can well, pull off blue safety tab, spray the entire shirt. Try to maintain even pressure on trigger.
. For darker coverage, spray over twice.
. Wait about 20 minutes for the paint to begin to dry.
. Lift off stencil.
. Paint will be dry to the touch in about an hour. Allow to dry thoroughly (72 hours) before washing

How to make your own stencils

1. Using overhead transparency (OHT) sheets
You can buy sheets of clear acrylic, used to make overhead projector transparencies, from newsagents and stationers.
Print your design onto the OHT sheet using a laser printer, or place the OHT sheet over your original design and trace using a permanent marker.
Cut around your design using a scalpel or box cutter knife. Remove void areas.
Lightly spray with adhesive, and place on fabric.
Use Stencil Spray to apply several light coats, or blends of layered colours.
Follow instructions for using stencils above.
OHT sheet stencils can be used repeatedly.

2. Using contact adhesive vinyl
You can buy rolls of "contact" at supermarkets, newsagents and stationers.
Print your design onto a cut sheet of contact using a laser printer, or draw your design using a permanent marker.
Cut around your design using a scalpel or box cutter knife. Remove void areas.
Peel off the backing paper, and carefully place adhesive stencil on fabric.
Use Stencil Spray to apply several light coats, or blends of layered colours.
Follow instructions for using stencils above.
Stencils made from contact are very effective but can be used once only.
